Everyone knows the best way to kick off your wedding reception in style is with an amazing live band. There’s nothing quite like live music to get the party started and ensure your guests won’t want to leave the dancefloor all night.
But as a bride or groom it’s likely this is your first time ever booking live music – and we get it – it can seem SO overwhelming!
So, we’ve put together a short list of things to consider before you start looking for your dream wedding band…
What sort of atmosphere are you trying to create? Do you want your guests busting out their moves across the dancefloor all night? Or maybe you want a smooth cocktail lounge vibe with a jazz band such as The High Hats?
Make sure the bands you speak to have a couple of videos for you to see them in action. Are they party starters or crooners? Perhaps they have a public gig you can come and see them at before the big day to help you get a feel for what to expect!
Do they suit the venue...?
Both aesthetically and practically!
Aesthetically - Maybe you’re having a Barn style wedding and want a Mumford style folk band such as The High Flyers to really fit into the setting? Or perhaps your wedding is black tie so you’re looking for a glitzy show band such as The Party Band to entertain your classy crowd?
Try and find a band that really enhance your venue/theme – it’s all in the detail!
Practically – most venues will ask for some documentation from the band. PAT testing certificates for all electrical equipment, proof of their Public Liability Insurance and any risk assessment they may require.
So be sure to double check that you band has these documents ready before you confirm!
Your favourite tunes...
Do you love punk rock? Or have a penchant for the 80’s? Then choose a band that specialises in you & your partners favourite music styles!
Most wedding bands have varied repertoires and these days you’ll find most will learn a special request or two to make your set list even more personal to you – side note – these requests could come at an extra charge but there’ll always be some bands like MK That’ll learn one for free!
Before you start looking it’s important to work out an approximate budget. Bands can hugely vary in prices so work out in advance what your price bracket is and only look at bands that fall within it!
Other questions you may want to ask them…
Do they provide music in between sets?
Can they provide a DJ service afterwards?
Do they bring lighting?
How long does it take them to set up?
Do they need food and drinks providing for them?
Still not sure?
