It may seem like a simple question – but it’s an important one. How many songs do I need (and when will they be played) in my wedding ceremony?

Ultimately – it’s YOUR day, so you can schedule the ceremony to have as many (or as few) songs as you want. But here’s our suggestion based on what’s most commonly performed by our acts at The Act Booker.

PRE CEREMONY

While your guests are entering and taking their seats, this is a great opportunity to start the music. 15 – 20 minutes of background music can immediately create the perfect atmosphere for your ceremony. Whether you’ve opted for a string quartet, acoustic duo, or are just using a playlist, a soundtrack of your favourite love songs is a fantastic way to start the day!

Quartetto D'Archi - The Act Booker

BRIDAL ENTRANCE

I think it’s fair to say for all Brides & Grooms this is the most important moment of the day – so it makes sense to punctuate it with an emotive and beautiful song. If that’s your desired effect!

Whether your ceremony is traditional or modern there are SO many song choices for this! We’ve listed a few of our favourites below.

Traditional

"The Bridal Chorus" from Lohengrin (R. Wagner)

"Canon in D" (J. Pachelbel)

"Rondeau" (J.J. Mouret)

Non Traditional

Glasgow Love Theme (Love Actually)

A Thousand Years (The Piano Guys)

Can’t Help Falling In Love (Hayley Reinhart)

HYMNS

If you’re getting married in a place of worship you will be asked to select 2-3 hymns that will be built into your order of service. Your service leader will help you choose these according to which denomination/faith you are.

SIGNING OF THE REGISTER

Once the bulk of the ceremony is done the Bride & Groom will be asked; along with their witnesses, to sign the register. For some, this will be a quick moment and only require 1 song. However, for most people pausing for photos will mean that it could take a little longer. We suggest you have 3 songs prepared for this point – better to have too many and not play them all, than not to have enough!

This is great opportunity to think of a few songs that truly reflect you as a couple. Songs that remind you of when you met, or poignant moments in your relationship. Some couples like to be more playful with their choices, others prefer romantic choices. It’s totally up to you! Create the atmosphere that truly reflects your relationship and keep it personal. If you’re stuck for choices, here’s a few classics that our acts have played in ceremonies before to help you out!

Make You Feel My Love - Adele

What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

Grow Old With Me - Tom Odell

I Came Here For Love (Acoustic) - Ella Eyre

Michael Buble - Everything

At Last - Etta James

Bethan - Wedding Singer - The Act Booker

EXIT MUSIC

The Bride & Grooms exit signals the start of their married life together – with all your family & friends cheering you out, this moment is nothing short of joy! So let your song choice reflect that – choose something fun and upbeat for you and your guests exit to your reception, and let the party begin!

We’ve selected a number of traditional and non- traditional popular choices to give you a head start in choosing.

Traditional

Arrival of the Queen of Sheba from “Solomon” – Bela Banfalvi & Budapest Strings

Wedding March – Mendelssohn

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Posthorn-Serenade – Mozart

Non Traditional

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough (Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell)

Signed Sealed Delivered (Stevie Wonder)
